A word from Dr. Naresh

Keyhole surgery has changed what recovery looks like. Operations that once meant a long cut and a week in hospital are now done through small cuts, with most people walking the same day.

But I don't recommend keyhole surgery for its own sake. I recommend it when it gives you the same result with less pain, and I'll tell you when open surgery is the safer choice.

What is minimally invasive surgery?

Keyhole, laser and small-incision techniques: less pain, smaller scars, home sooner. Not always.

The main techniques

  1. 1

    Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery

A camera and instruments through 5 to 10 mm cuts, for gallbladder, appendix and hernia.

  2. 2

    Laser procedures

For piles, fissure, fistula and pilonidal sinus, usually with no open wound.

  3. 3

    Small-incision surgery

For lumps and cysts, with incisions placed along natural skin lines.

The complete guide: everything you need to know

Everything you need to know about minimally invasive surgery, in one place.

1Are you an ideal candidate for minimally invasive surgery?

Suitability is decided at an in-person examination, with a review of your history and reports.

Where it's used in this practice

  • Gallstones and gallbladder disease
  • Hernias
  • Appendicitis
  • Piles, fissure, fistula and pilonidal sinus (laser)
  • Lumps and cysts, through small incisions

When to wait or plan carefully

  • Severe heart or lung disease makes general anaesthesia risky
  • Extensive previous abdominal surgery, where open surgery may be safer
2Step-by-step: how it is done
  1. 1

    Before

Blood tests, and a scan if needed, plus an anaesthesia check.

  2. 2

    Fasting

No food for 6 hours before surgery.

  3. 3

    The surgery

Under general anaesthesia, through small cuts of 5 to 10 mm using a camera.

  4. 4

    After

Walking the same day; home in 1 to 2 days for most operations.

3Day-by-day recovery timeline and what to expect

Honest pricing matters. The exact cost depends on what your examination shows, so you'll get a clear, itemised estimate before anything is booked.

What affects the cost

  • Type of treatment. Medicines, a clinic procedure, laser, keyhole or open surgery each cost differently.
  • Hospital and room. Day-care, general ward or private room changes the total.
  • Tests and scans. Blood tests, ultrasound or CT, only if they're needed and not already done.
  • Anaesthesia. Local anaesthesia costs less than spinal or general.
  • Health insurance. Most policies cover these treatments; waiting periods and room limits vary.

6Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Is minimally invasive always better?

Not always. It's better when it achieves the same result with less harm. For some conditions, a traditional operation is more reliable, and you'll be told honestly when that's the case.

Will I recover faster?

Usually, yes. Most people are home sooner and back to routine days or weeks earlier than after open surgery.

Is laser the same as laparoscopic?

No. Laser uses focused light energy, mostly for conditions around the anus. Laparoscopic surgery uses a camera and fine instruments through small cuts in the abdomen.

Does it cost more?

Sometimes a little more, because of equipment. Shorter stays and less time off work often balance that, and insurance usually covers it.

Am I suitable?

Most people are. Suitability depends on your condition, previous surgery and general health, and is assessed at consultation.

Will I need general anaesthesia?

Keyhole surgery does; laser and small-incision procedures often use spinal or local anaesthesia.

How small will the scars be?

Usually 5 to 10 mm for keyhole cuts; laser often leaves none visible.

What is the cost of minimally invasive surgery in Vijayawada?

The cost depends on the treatment you need, the hospital and room type, any tests, and the anaesthesia used. Dr. Naresh Veeranki gives a clear, itemised estimate after examination, before anything is booked, and most health insurance policies cover minimally invasive surgery.
