A word from Dr. Naresh

Gallstone pain is often mistaken for acidity for months. By the time patients reach me, many have tried tablets and home remedies and are still getting attacks after meals.

If stones are causing symptoms, keyhole removal of the gallbladder is a safe, permanent cure, and most people are home in a day or two. If your stones aren't causing trouble, I'll tell you that too.

The complete guide: everything you need to know

Everything you need to know about gallbladder polyp evaluation, in one place.

1Are you an ideal candidate for gallbladder polyp evaluation?

Suitability is decided at an in-person examination, with a review of your history and reports.

Why patients come to see us

  • A polyp was reported on an ultrasound done for another reason
  • A previously seen polyp seems to have grown
  • You have pain as well as a polyp
  • You also have gallstones

When to wait or plan carefully

  • Stones were found by chance and cause no symptoms
  • Severe heart or lung disease needs attention first
  • You're pregnant; timing is planned carefully
2Step-by-step: how it is done
  1. 1

    Before

An ultrasound, liver function and blood tests, and an anaesthesia check.

  2. 2

    Fasting

Nothing to eat from midnight, or at least 6 hours before surgery.

  3. 3

    The surgery

Keyhole removal under general anaesthesia through 3 or 4 small cuts, usually about an hour.

  4. 4

    After

Light food the same evening or next morning; most go home in 1 to 2 days.

What affects the cost

  • Type of treatment. Medicines, a clinic procedure, laser, keyhole or open surgery each cost differently.
  • Hospital and room. Day-care, general ward or private room changes the total.
  • Tests and scans. Blood tests, ultrasound or CT, only if they're needed and not already done.
  • Anaesthesia. Local anaesthesia costs less than spinal or general.
  • Health insurance. Most policies cover these treatments; waiting periods and room limits vary.

6Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Is a polyp cancer?

Very rarely. Most are cholesterol polyps with no cancer risk. The risk rises with size, especially above 1 cm, and with age over 50, a single polyp or a broad base.

How often do I need a scan?

Small polyps under 6 mm are usually rechecked at 6 months, then yearly for a few years. Polyps of 6 to 9 mm are watched more closely.

Should I just have it removed to be safe?

For small polyps without risk features, surgery usually isn't necessary. For polyps near or above 1 cm, growing polyps, or those with gallstones and pain, removal makes sense.

Can just the polyp be removed?

No. The whole gallbladder is removed, which is safe and doesn't affect normal digestion.

Can polyps disappear?

Some apparent polyps do. Repeat scans confirm what's going on.

Is there a diet that shrinks polyps?

No specific diet does, though a balanced, lower-fat diet is sensible.

What should I bring?

All previous ultrasound reports and images, so any growth can be compared.

What is the cost of gallbladder polyp treatment in Vijayawada?

The cost depends on the treatment you need, the hospital and room type, any tests, and the anaesthesia used. Dr. Naresh Veeranki gives a clear, itemised estimate after examination, before anything is booked, and most health insurance policies cover gallbladder polyp evaluation. Call or WhatsApp +91 83338 26666 for an estimate.
